Hi, I'm Jennifer Dorothy.
I'm a graduate student in Marriage and Family Therapy studying how outdoor adventure, wilderness skills training, and art-making can strengthen relationships between individuals, families, and couples.
My work starts with women. I’m curious about the ripple effect that happens when we reconnect with ourselves and one another through outdoor play, creativity, and receptivity. How do our relationships improve?
In order to heal the parts of us that have been wounded as daughters, sisters, mothers, wives, partners, or friends, we need a sense of belonging.
Research shows that women who regularly spend time in supportive groups of other women experience increased oxytocin—the hormone associated with bonding, trust, and emotional well-being. Strong social connections are also linked to better long-term health and longevity. Yet in a world that encourages hyper-independence and keeps us tethered to our devices, creating genuine friendships and community has become more difficult than ever.
