Join us in Slovenia’s breathtaking Julian Alps for a 10-day women’s retreat that blends the thrill of alpine hut-to-hut hiking with restorative practices for body, mind, and spirit. Step into a once-in-a-lifetime journey where you’ll move through soaring peaks, paint the landscapes around you, and reconnect with your most empowered self. Beginner hikers are welcome!
Each day brings a new vista of wildflower meadows, working alpine dairy farms, and rocky dolomite pinnacles through Triglav National Park. From its traditional cheese-makers to its cozy mountain huts with delicious goulash, Slovenia holds a quiet, sacred energy. During times of rest, you will use the practice of watercolor painting to slow down and take in your surroundings. When hiking, you will walk with intention, honoring your body in rhythm with the alps. Together, we’ll honor the land, ourselves, and the bonds of sisterhood we create along the way.
Our trip begins in the delightfully medieval towns of either Zagreb, Croatia or Ljubljana, Slovenia—depending on where you choose to arrive. Then, we travel together to Lake Bled with its iconic fairytale castle on an island in the middle of a crystal-clear lake. This is where we will relax, learn to watercolor, play, and recover from long flights, before making our way into the mountains.
This retreat is more than travel; it’s a pilgrimage to the highest peak in Slovenia on via ferrata—if you so choose. As the trip reaches it’s apex, a portion of the group will climb up to Mount Triglav using via ferrata. Well-described by wikipedia as, “Italian for ‘iron path’, via ferrata is a protected climbing route that uses steel cables, stakes, and rungs fixed to a rock face to provide a secure path for hikers and climbers in exposed terrain. While originating in the Alps for military purposes, modern via ferratas are a popular adventure sport, allowing people without technical climbing experience to enjoy the thrill of scaling mountains and challenging landscapes.”
We will reconvene as a group at the next hut, to share stories of the day around plates of sausage, vegetable stew, polenta, and fresh-baked bread. Over the next two days, we will descend through ridges and valleys, back to Lake Bohinj, on our way to the Croatian coast. Our trip ends by floating in clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea.
